Sheene Mill Wedding Photographer

“We’re pretty boring.”
When this couple filled out their questionnaire before their wedding, that was one of the answers that immediately made me smile.
Over the years, I’ve had couples describe themselves as awkward, shy, unphotogenic, or completely unsure what to do in front of a camera. More often than not, they’re worried they’re somehow missing the secret ingredient that makes other couples look so comfortable in photographs.
The truth is, there isn’t one.
This wedding at Sheene Mill was a wonderful reminder that you don’t need an extraordinary story or a perfectly curated wedding day to create photographs that feel meaningful. Sometimes the most memorable weddings are the ones where couples stop trying to be interesting and simply enjoy being together.
A Relationship Built On The Everyday Things

When I asked them to describe their relationship, they told me it was
“simple and easy going.”
When I asked what they enjoy doing together, the answer was refreshingly honest. They like eating good food, playing games, and spending time with their cats. They met at a salsa class and, according to them, they still can’t dance.
There was something incredibly endearing about the way they spoke about themselves. No dramatic declarations. No attempts to make their relationship sound more exciting than it is. Just two people who genuinely enjoy spending time together and have built a life that feels comfortable, familiar, and completely their own.
I think many couples will recognise themselves in that.
Social media can make it feel as though every relationship needs to be filled with grand gestures and perfectly planned adventures. In reality, most relationships are built in the quieter moments. The evenings spent on the sofa. The shared routines. The conversations that happen while making dinner. The comfort of knowing someone so well that you can be entirely yourself around them.
Why Sheene Mill Was The Perfect Setting

Set alongside the River Mel in Cambridgeshire, Sheene Mill has a relaxed atmosphere that immediately puts people at ease. It feels elegant without being intimidating, and the riverside setting offers plenty of beautiful spots for photographs without needing to venture far from your guests.
One of the things I love most about weddings at Sheene Mill is how naturally the day flows. Guests can move between the ceremony, drinks reception, and evening celebrations without the day ever feeling rushed. It creates space for couples to be present rather than constantly moving from one thing to the next.
That felt particularly fitting for this couple. Their wedding wasn’t about putting on a show. It was about bringing together the people they love and celebrating the life they’ve built together.
“We Just Want Natural Photos”

When couples enquire with me, one of the most common things they say is that they want natural photographs.
What I’ve learned over the years is that natural photographs are rarely the thing people are actually looking for.
What they’re really looking for is the feeling behind them.
They want to feel relaxed. They want to stop worrying about where to stand or what to do with their hands. They want to enjoy their wedding day without feeling self-conscious every time a camera appears.
This couple described themselves as mostly introverted. They told me they were comfortable holding hands and sharing a quick kiss, but weren’t particularly drawn to big public displays of affection. More than anything, they wanted guidance and reassurance that they didn’t need to perform.
That’s exactly how we approached the day.
Rather than focusing on poses, I encouraged them to focus on each other. We chatted, wandered through the grounds, and created space for genuine interaction. Before long, they stopped thinking about the camera altogether. Because they felt so comfortable with me, they even got a little adventurous and we asked the staff if we could put them in the boat for a few minutes. We got some really fun photographs of them in the boat and I gave them full permission to agree or skip this idea altogether. In the end they both went for it and had so much fun.
The Best Photographs Come From Feeling Comfortable

Looking through their gallery afterwards, what stands out isn’t a perfectly executed pose or this dramatic moment staged for the camera.
What stands out is how comfortable they were together.
You can see it in the way they look at each other. The way they naturally gravitate towards one another. The quiet confidence that comes from being with someone who knows you completely.
Those moments weren’t created because they knew how to pose. They happened because they felt safe enough to be themselves.
That’s something I wish more couples knew before their wedding day. You don’t need to learn how to model. You don’t need to practise in front of a mirror. And you certainly don’t need to become a different version of yourself.
You simply need to show up as you are.
Planning A Sheene Mill Wedding?

If you’re planning a wedding at Sheene Mill and you’ve ever described yourselves as awkward, boring, or not very photogenic, you’re in good company.
Almost every couple I photograph tells me some version of the same thing.
The good news is that you don’t need to know what you’re doing in front of the camera. My job is to create an environment where you can relax, enjoy your day, and focus on the people around you.
Because the photographs that matter most are rarely about looking perfect. They’re about recognising yourselves when you look back at them years from now.
And that’s something worth celebrating.
